The stunning Orava Castle is situated high on a rock in the village of Oravský Podzámok close to the Polish border. It was believed to have been built in the 13th century when it was part of the Hungarian kingdom. It is built on a natural rock formation surrounded by the river Orava and was originally a wooden structure. Orava Castle is one of the most beautiful Slovak castles and is one of the best preserved and most visited castles in Slovakia. It is a Slovak national historical monument housing one of the oldest museums in the country.
The castle has been used in many films most famously the original Nosferatu in 1922.
